Argyle defender Lewis Gibson says that the focus for the Greens to try to turn their one-point hauls into threes.

The Pilgrims have drawn four of their last six games, the latest being a 3-3 draw with Watford on New Year’s Day, in which Argyle fell behind with an Edo Kayembe goal, before Finn Azaz and Morgan Whittaker turned the game around. Ismael Kone’s equaliser, then Ryan Hardie’s goal, made it 3-2 before half-time, but Ryan Andrews rounded off the scoring.

The final equaliser came with more than half an hour still on the clock, and Argyle pushed heavily for the winner. Watford goalkeeper Ben Hamer made a string of good saves, and Gibson even went close, firing a 20-yard effort just over the bar in the closing stages.

“I saw a little gap open up, so I thought I'd take a hit,” said Gibson. “You’ve got to hit the target to be honest with you. If you hit the target, it gives you a chance.

“We created good chances. We scored three goals, but there were more [chances] in the second half. At one point we had probably four shots in about 20 seconds. Their keeper pulled off some really good saves.

“It was a tough game. The momentum in the first half was a bit like table tennis - them, then us, then them, then us. It’s a little bit frustrating, obviously, to not get three points, but it’s another point on the board against a top side. Hopefully we can start to turn those draws into wins.

“I thought we were really good in the transition, we’ve just got to defend some moments better; it’s fine details in this league, hopefully we can put it right for the next few games.

“I've played all the games over the Christmas period. That's normal, but it's good to get that one out of the way as well so you've got a little bit of a free week this week. We’ll look to recover this week to be ready for the games ahead.”
