Walter C. Parson at Home Park
Another of the club’s loyal sponsors paid a visit to Home Park recently see their advertising board taking pride of place on the Mayflower Grandstand.
Walter C. Parson Funeral Directors, with 12 offices across Devon and Cornwall, have supported Argyle through stadium advertising since the Grandstand’s redevelopment in 2019, but the family-owned business’ backing of the club goes back a lot further than that.
The company’s Managing Director, Stephen Ware, recalls his first experience at Argyle back in the 60s, when the Greens defeated Corby Town 6-0 in the FA Cup. Steve’s son, John, joined the family business in 2014, but has attended Argyle as a season ticket holder with his dad since 2002.
Walter C. Parson has been a family-run business for seven generations, having been established in 1842 in the Cornish village of Stoke Climsland. Alongside their backing of Argyle, the company also supports local non-league football by sponsoring the annual South West Peninsula League Cup.
In their line of work, Walter C. Parson have taken care of many funerals of late Argyle supporters, with a number of nods to the club during ceremonies – including the playing of Semper Fidelis during services, and flags or scarves draped across coffins.
Argyle’s Commercial Development Manager, Matt Kimberley, said: “It’s always great to get a chance to meet more of our sponsors, and it was a pleasure to meet John on his recent visit to Argyle. We are very grateful for the support of local businesses like Walter C. Parson.”
John Ware, of Walter C. Parson Funeral Directors, said: “We are very proud to play a small part in supporting Argyle through our signage on the Mayflower Grandstand balcony and look forward to working in partnership with the club for many years to come.”
