Wally Bellett RIP

Wally Bellett: 1933-2022

We are saddened to hear the news of the recent passing of former Argyle player Wally Bellett at the age of 88.

Wally made 43 appearances for Argyle, scoring one goal. He was a stocky and reliable left back, signing in 1958 from Chelsea and helping Argyle to win the Football League Third Division in his first season.

His career started at Chelmsford and Barking as a youngster before he signed his first professional contract with Chelsea, where he made 35 appearances and scored once for the London club. He left Stamford Bridge for Argyle in a £12,000 deal.

Bellett returned to his childhood club of Chelmsford before going to Leyton Orient, Chester, Wrexham and Tranmere Rovers. He then returned to non-league after these spells, finishing his career with a coaching stint with Canvey Island.

Argyle sends our best wishes to Wally’s family and friends.
