Under-18s v Forest Green (H) | Preview
After a 2-0 win in their opening Youth Alliance fixture of the season, against Cheltenham Town, Argyle’s Under-18 side will be looking to follow up with another positive result against a Gloucestershire side this weekend.
Forest Green Rovers visit Millennium Fields in Plymouth to meet Darren Way’s side this Saturday (11am), having got their campaign off to the perfect start.
They did so without Freddie Issaka and Caleb Roberts, who have been involved in first-team duties of late. Freddie started and provided an assist as the first team won 2-0 against Leyton Orient in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, with Caleb looking assured when coming on as a second-half substitute.
Darren said: “It’s been a good week in terms of Freddie and Caleb getting minutes for the first team in a highly competitive game. As an Academy, we’ve had a good week.
“[Winning the first game against Cheltenham] makes a big difference, because it helps the players believe in what we have been working on in training over a six-week period. There are so many aspects that you can grow confidence form when you win that first game.
“[Forest Green] are a very good footballing side, a very technical side. They make a lot of passes and try to play through the thirds.
“The way we’ve been playing, and the confidence we have gained over six weeks now, as well as the first years gelling with the second years, we’re very optimistic going into games. There is a process that we’ve got that is working. I think that is really important.”
