Under-18s v Bournemouth (H) | Preview
Argyle’s Under-18s kick off their Professional Development League Cup campaign against Bournemouth on Saturday morning.
Last weekend, the Young Pilgrims completed an outstanding second-half comeback win against Exeter City in the Devon derby. This victory saw Darren Way’s side come from a two-goal deficit at half-time to go on and score three times in the second half to secure all three points.
Therefore, the Greens will still boast their 100% record ahead of Saturday morning’s cup game against Bournemouth.
The Cherries are a side the Young Greens have been neck-and-neck with over the past few seasons, frequently duelling at the top of the Youth Alliance League, and Way is looking forward to renewing their acquaintance.
“We know how good Bournemouth are because we’ve played them over a number of years,” Darren told Argyle TV. “They’ve been our best games.
“They’ve probably been our most competitive challenges in and out of possession and it’s certainly a game that we’re really looking forward to.
“Our game plan has normally kept us very close with Bournemouth’s ability over a number of seasons, and we’ve got to go and deliver the same again.
“We have to make sure we deliver an excellent technical game plan, we have to make sure our concentration levels are very high.”
Swansea and Cardiff complete Argyle’s group in this season’s PDL Cup. Way spoke of the competition’s importance, saying: “It’s a really good cup for the development of our players…it’s a new challenge.
Way also provided an update on the fitness of striker Kieran Edworthy, who looked to suffer a bad injury at the end of the Exeter game.
However, things may not be as bad as feared. Way said: “As it stands, at the moment, it looks like no fractures, no breaks, and hopefully he should return to action soon.”
