Under-18s Report | Argyle 4 Forest Green Rovers 0
Argyle Under-18s continued their flawless start to their Youth Alliance campaign, beating Forest Green Rovers 4-0 on Saturday morning.
Freddie Issaka marked his return to the Under-18s with a hat-trick and Tegan Finn came off the bench in the second half to score his first of the season.
The Young Pilgrims started the game strongly with both Kieran Edworthy and Caleb Roberts coming close to scoring the game’s first goal early on.
Issaka won a penalty midway through the first half when he was brought down by the Rovers full-back as he sped past him into the box.
The Truro-born forward took the spot-kick himself and drilled the ball past the outstretched keeper into the bottom-right corner, making it 1-0.
The Pilgrims went into the break with just the one goal advantage, knowing that if they could finish more of their chances, they would put the game to bed.
And that is exactly what they did, with Issaka scoring both the team’s and his own second of the game.
Slick passing between Jack Matthews and Roberts set Argyle away before the former found the dangerous Issaka in space just outside the box.
The Wales youth international rolled the ball out his feet before curling a shot from 25 yards in off the post, a sensational finish.
Despite it being 2-0, there was no let-up from the young Greens who went in search of a third goal that would put the result beyond doubt.
With 15 minutes to go a clumsy challenge in the box on Cole Fisher forced the referee to point to the spot awarding Argyle their second penalty of the game. Issaka once again stepped up and converted from 12-yards, completing his hat-trick.
Two substitutes combined to score the Greens’ fourth. Joe Hatch held the ball up and slid in Finn who rolled the ball past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net rounding off an excellent performance.
With two games played, Darren Way’s side have won both, scoring six and conceding none, demonstrating an exceptional opening to the campaign.
