Under 18s Preview | Cheltenham Town (A)
Argyle Under-18s are back in action on Tuesday, just a few days after their Devon Derby win over Exeter City, facing Cheltenham Town in the Under-18s Professional Development League Cup.
The Greens travel north to face the Robins in the opening game of the group stages, before facing Swansea City and Bristol City later in the year.
Last season, Head Coach Jamie Lowry’s side finished the cup unbeaten, but missed out on a place in the quarter finals to eventual winners Swansea. This season he is hopeful to go one better.
“After the weekend, we're looking confident,” Lowry told Argyle TV. “We're looking forward to a different cup competition and one that we did quite well in last season.
“We missed out on the final day of the group stages last year, so the target is to try and go one better this year.
“The cup is really challenging because we had three Category 2 teams and ourselves. It was good to go up against those teams, for the players in terms of ability, and then for me as a coach to test ourselves against them.
“We won one game and drew two. We didn't get across the line against Swansea in the last game. We had to beat them, and we managed to draw. It's exciting and different for the lads, rather than playing the usual teams week-in, week-out. It's a little bit of something different and a new challenge.
“I want to try to win and be competitive. For the lads, it's to test ourselves against so-called better players at better categories and go and show what we're about as a team.”
