Sutton United (H) Randell's Preview
A feature of Argyle’s recent games in the Sky Bet Championship has been open encounters, full of goals and excitement.
A glance at the past three games at Home Park sees that the Pilgrims have won 3-2, against Rotherham United, followed by consecutive 3-3 draws against Birmingham City and Watford.
High-scoring games, with attacking football being played, is a common feature of Championship games, but as attention turns to the Emirates FA Cup this weekend, Argyle are preparing for an eventuality of a different sort of game.
Visitors Sutton United will meet Argyle for the first time in the two clubs’ histories, and head west in 23rd position in League Two, seeking a cup upset.
For midfielder Adam Randell, the FA Cup remains a competition to savour, and one the Greens hope to progress in.
“It's a really exciting competition to be a part of,” he said. “All the bigger teams are involved and we're looking forward to it.
“We're going to put as much effort into the analysis side of things, making sure that we're ready for it, make sure that we're up for the game. The games are coming thick and fast at the moment and they're all important.
“There's always stories, every year, of big teams falling to supposedly smaller teams. We need to be making sure that we're ready. Sutton are going to come here to try to win the game. We need to stop them from doing that.
“[Sutton bringing a different approach] is definitely something we're preparing for. We need to make sure that we're sort of concentrating on what we're doing as well as what they're doing.
“It's important for us to not lose our own identity in the way that we're going to play, but at the same time we need to cope with potentially a different style of game that they might come up with.
“[The high-scoring games] are really exciting, to be fair. It's been enjoyable, but also a bit of carnage. It's nice to be scoring goals, and we know that we need to improve in terms of keeping them out of our own net. Hopefully we can continue working on that and continue getting better at both ends. With any luck, there'll be just as many goals - but all for us.”
