Queens Park Rangers (A) Wright's Preview
When Callum Wright was injured against Bristol City, in September, he was naturally not happy.
When he was informed that he would likely be out for five months, unhappiness would have turned to despondency.
However, his diagnosis was later downgraded, and suddenly an absence of less than two months was quite so bad.
The midfielder returned for the home game against Middlesbrough on Saturday, 4 November, coming on as a substitute. He was involved from the bench on three further occasions before starting – and completing 90 minutes – against Leicester City at the weekend.
“I’m starting to get back to myself,” said Callum. “The injury was frustrating. It was a bit of a painful one, so I was glad to get it sorted and hopefully I can just get back going now.
“Originally, I got told it would be about five months. From that, I went to see the specialist in London and they then changed it to about six weeks. Normally, that would be hard, but [after being initially diagnosed as five months] it was a bit of a relief.
“I knew that I had to get some rest, get it right, and then hopefully when I'm back it doesn't cause me any bother, which it hasn't.
“It's felt like a while, because it was a couple of games before the international window and then you'd have two weeks [without a game] so it's felt like a long time - four, five, six weeks - since I've got back playing, but it can only do you good doing more training.
“It's a bit of natural progression, but I just want to get back playing properly now, trying to break into the team properly.”
Argyle’s next match is on Wednesday evening, at Queens Park Rangers who, after a slow start to the season, have won their last three games in a row.
“They're a big club,” said Callum. “I think they were always going to pick up a bit of form and fight.
“It didn't look great for them at the start of the season, but they've got some really big players and, two or three years ago, their players were ripping up the Championship, so it's going to be a really tough test. It's a good stadium to go and play at; we're all excited for it and ready to go.”
