Project 35 Takeover for Easter Monday Fixture
Bank holiday Monday’s Sky Bet League One fixture against Lincoln City at Home Park will present a second opportunity of the season for the Argyle community to come together in the fight against food poverty in Plymouth, Devon, and Cornwall.
Our home game against the Imps is our second dedicated Project 35 Takeover fixture of the season, with supporters and members of the community again encouraged to bring items of in-date, non-perishable food to Home Park before the game, with the aim of filling multiple large food delivery vehicles for distribution to Plymouth’s foodbank network and Argyle Community Trust’s community larder, located at Manadon Sports and Community Hub.
We put the call out to supporters for our last fan appeal in October and to say we were overwhelmed by the generosity of the Green Army would be an understatement. An incredible 2.6 tonnes of produce were donated to a delighted and emotional Plymouth Foodbank. Far surpassing our target to fill one van, the Argyle family filled five.
Project 35, in partnership with Ginsters, has already had a profound impact since its inception in June last year. As well as the huge success of the last fan appeal, the project has delivered:
- Over 30,000 meals to those most in need
- Free education and wellbeing sessions to over 1,500 children
- Over 1,400 volunteering hours from ‘Pledge 35’ volunteers
- 307 hampers to the most deprived areas of Plymouth
- Over 200 hours of community volunteering from Ginsters staff
- 220 match tickets, 15 mascot experiences, and 212 Argyle shirts gifted
- Adult education sessions
- Warm spaces opened up for the community
- Vital poverty awareness raised
New initiatives will be introduced in the coming months and are being launched weekly in the fight against poverty.
The food van will be located at the Babcock Devonport End from 12pm on matchday. Pledge 35 volunteers will join Ginsters, club and Trust staff to support collections and chat more about the wider aims of Project 35.
Dwain Morgan, Head of Business and Impact at Argyle Community Trust, said: “We were absolutely blown away by the incredible support from the community and Argyle supporters at the last fan food appeal. For local people to come together and donate 2.6 tonnes of produce for Plymouth Foodbank is a testament to the kindness and generosity we have seen towards Project 35 since its inception.
“The deepening cost of living crisis is having an impact on so many people’s lives in our communities. We look forward to Monday and, hopefully, surpassing the incredible effort at the last appeal.”
