Preview | Swindon Town v Argyle Women
Following playing in front of over 2,000 spectators against Ipswich Town at Home Park last weekend, Argyle Women turn their focus to the Vitality Women’s FA Cup, and a second round trip to take on Swindon Town Women at the County Ground.
The Greens will be looking to bounce back from a 5-0 defeat to Ipswich Town last time out, though the scoreline was particularly harsh on Argyle.
Manager Ryan Perks caught up with us earlier in the week to reflect on the team's performance in the previous match, and how it has added motivation for the squad going into the next round of the FA Cup.
He said: “On reflection, I thought the girls played well. We had numerous chances in the second half and dominated possession, but we couldn’t find the back of the net. We died off in the last ten minutes as well which allowed Ipswich to get three more, so we’ve just got to make sure that we stay focused and be more clinical when we get our chances.”
The Greens will be hoping that experience, and their position higher up the women's football pyramid, will tip the balance in their favour in Wiltshire. The Robins play in the FAWNL Division One South West and are sixth in the league - however, their recent form is exceptional, winning five games in a row, and Perks knows Argyle will have to be sharp to extend their cup journey.
“Swindon have had a positive start," said Perks. "It’s not going to be an easy game, so we will have to be on it from the outset and keep focus. We don’t have our full squad available to use this weekend so there will be a few changes to the team going up to the County Ground. I’ve alluded to it before though that this does allow other players to stake their claim for a place in the starting eleven.”
Pay on the day is available at Swindon, and tickets cost £3 for adults, while under-18s go free.
