Argyle Women’s month on the road continues this Sunday, 12th March, as they take on Portsmouth Town Women at the PMC Stadium in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division.

Argyle’s March began with a 3-0 defeat away to promotion hopefuls Ipswich Town. The Tractor Girls put in a dominant display, but despite the result, Argyle manager Ryan Perks was proud of the effort levels his players put in against a battle-hardened Ipswich side.

“I thought we gave a good account of ourselves,” said Perks. “Similar to the Home Park game, we were off it in the first half, but the second-half reaction was superb. It shows that on our day we can compete with those teams up the table and give them a tough game.

“We’ve got Portsmouth this weekend who are also challenging for promotion so if we can take our second-half performance into this match I’m confident we can come away with a result.”

This will be Argyle’s third time playing Portsmouth this season. The Pilgrims lost 2-1 in the league and 3-0 in the league cup. Pompey currently hold third place in the league and have been in constant contention for the top spot this season.

Jay Sadler’s girls have had a tough couple of matches in the lead-up to this game: a 2-0 loss to Watford and a 5-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest. With no room for sympathy, Perks is hoping Portsmouth’s unfortunate form will continue into this weekend.

He said: “Portsmouth have been a great side in the league this season. In both games we’ve played against them we’ve lacked in the final third, but in the lead-up to this game we’ve shown improvements in that area.

“Last season, we managed to win a crucial game against Portsmouth in the second half of the season so hopefully we can repeat that. They will also be looking to bounce back through the league where every point counts now, but as I’ve alluded to before, we can beat anyone on our day. If we repeat our performances from the last couple of weeks, we can come away with a win.”

Tickets cost £3. If you cannot make it to the game, then updates are available on social media @ArgyleWFC.
