Preview | Milton Keynes Dons v Argyle Women
Argyle Women travel to Stadium MK this Sunday to take on Milton Keynes Dons in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division.
Despite last week's result ending 5-2 to Watford, Argyle will be proud of their performance over the 90 minutes. An early goal from Amber Pollock gave the Greens the lead in the first half. Although Watford recovered and went on to win the match, Argyle never made it easy for the travelling Hornets. Manager Ryan Perks was delighted with his side's determination against a team fighting for promotion and shared his thoughts on the girls' performance overall.
“I thought the girls played well against Watford,” he said. “We said going into that match that we weren’t going to make it easy for them and we achieved that. In spells, I thought we dominated Watford and gave them a good game overall. That’s something we’ve been consistently good at when it comes to playing the top teams in the league.
“We’ve now got three huge games in the league as well as a cup game against Exeter to look towards and if the girls can keep playing the way they have been against the top sides in those upcoming fixtures I believe we can get the results we need.”
The first of Argyle’s final three games in the league comes against sixth-placed MK Dons. The Dons have won three of their last five league matches, scoring 10 and conceding 11. Their previous match took place at Stadium MK where they triumphed 4-1 over relegation-battling Bridgwater United.
Speaking before the match, Perks had this to say about this weekend’s opposition: “I don’t think MK will change the way they set up much. We know they have some threats up front, so we’ll look to nullify them. If we stick to the gameplan and play the way we have done over the last few games, I think we can come away with the three points.”
The game will be held at Stadium MK, kick-off is at 4.30pm on Sunday, 9 April. Tickets cost £5 for adults, while under-18s have free entry. If you cannot make it to the game, then updates are available on social @ArgyleWFC.
Argyle Women Under-23s squad also play away this weekend, against Keynsham Town Reserves in the FAWNL Reserve South West.
