Preview | Argyle Women v Watford
Argyle Women return home this weekend to take on promotion challengers Watford in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division.
March was a challenging month for the travelling Greens, with all four games being played away from home. The most recent fixture saw Ryan Perks’ side lose 2-0 at Court Place Farm against Oxford United. Despite a valiant performance from the travelling Greens, Oxford managed to take away all three points after two well-taken set pieces made the difference over a fierce 90 minutes of play.
“It’s been a tough month for us,” said Perks. “We’ve had a whole month on the road, with some long journeys. We’ve played three of the top four teams in the league. Apart from the performance against Gillingham, we’ve given a good account of ourselves and proved that we’re not an easy team to beat. In those games, the girls have done all we’ve asked from them. We’ve created great chances against some of the best teams in our league. We need to take the positives from that and turn them into goals in the coming weeks.
“We played well against Oxford, and although we didn’t get as many chances as we’d have liked, we certainly didn’t give them many either. It was just some fine details from set pieces that let us down on the day. Aside from that, I was pleased with the girls.”
Argyle's return to Manadon Sports Hub sees them play host to third-placed Watford. March was a positive month for the Hornets who accumulated three league victories, netting 13 goals in the process, and keeping three clean sheets. With six points separating Watford from top-of-the-league Oxford, Damon Lathrope’s side will be looking to gain a crucial three points from this weekend.
“It’s great to be back home again, even if it is just for a week,” said Perks. “We’ve got another top side this weekend in Watford, who are flying.
“The last time we played them the decision for the first goal killed us, which in turn killed our overall game plan. Looking ahead to this game we just need to take the positives from last Sunday's game, carry it into this weekend and make it as difficult as possible for them to break us down whilst exploiting their mistakes.”
The game will be held at Manadon Sports & Community Hub, kick-off is at 12.30pm. Tickets cost £5 for adults, while under-3s have free entry. If you cannot make it to the game, then updates are available on social @ArgyleWFC.
