Preview | Argyle Women v Rugby Borough (A)
Argyle Women continue their stint away from home this weekend as they take on Rugby Borough for matchweek five of the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division.
Argyle will look to reignite their season with a positive result, following a frustrating 5-0 loss to Oxford United. Argyle's match against the U’s saw the Greens dominate the first 20 minutes of the match but struggle to find the target. Defender Lucy Hack's sending off in the 25th minute left Argyle vulnerable and Oxford capitalised on their extra player advantage.
“I was really pleased with the first 20 minutes”. Said Manager Ryan Perks on reflection of his side’s performance. “The girls were dominant in possession of the ball, and we pinned a very good side into their own half. Unfortunately, Lucy gets sent off and the game swings in Oxford's favour shortly after. I’m a little bit disappointed with the goals, the first one and third one were clear offsides. Jas should have done better with the second one and Katie made a mistake which led to the fourth.
“Looking at the positives, the girls showed great determination and played some excellent football at times. We’ve just got to take the positives from the match now and apply them to our game against Rugby Borough this week.”
The Nationwide Windows Arena plays host to Argyle's first-ever clash against the recently demoted side. Borough currently occupy third place in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division and have won four of their first five matches in the league. Their first league defeat of the season came last week, in a tightly contested match against top-of-the-league Hashtag United, a result that Rugby will look to bounce back from with the home advantage this weekend.
“It’s going to be a difficult game this weekend,” said Perks. “They’ve had a very strong start to the season, but we’ve got faith in the squad. We may change the style slightly and we do have some players unavailable but as proven in other matches we won’t go there and give them an easy game, and the girls have showcased that in the past few fixtures.”
The game will be held at The Nationwide Windows Arena, kick-off is at 2pm, and tickets operate on a pay what you want model. If you cannot make it to the game, then updates are available on social media @ArgyleWFC.
