Preview | Argyle Women v Portsmouth (A)
Argyle Women travel away once more this Sunday, to Westleigh Park, where they will face off against top-of-the-table Portsmouth in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division.
The Greens head into this weekend's fixture on the back of last Sunday’s 2-1 win against London Bees. Argyle were a goal down at half-time, but turned things around after the break to add another three points to their tally.
“We got a positive result, but it wasn’t the best performance,” said Manager Ryan Perks. “We had a good reaction in the second half and came away with the three points which we’re all delighted with, but we know that this weekend we need to step things up a notch and put in a positive performance across the whole 90, and give Portsmouth another tough match like we did last time.”
Since Argyle’s last outing against Pompey, Jay Sadler’s side has continued to go from strength to strength, accumulating 34 points from 12 matches, with the most recent match ending in a 0-0 draw against sixth-placed MK Dons.
“It’s going to be a very difficult game this weekend,” said Perks. “They’re in pole position to win the league. A win against us will put them even closer towards reaching that goal. The last time we played them it was when we began to kick on as a team and the performance the girls put in that day was superb.
“We frustrated Portsmouth, limited their chances and we were one of the first teams in the league in that period to score past them. Since then, we’ve come a very long way and had some very good performances against teams at the top end of the table. If we go there and play with the confidence we’ve gained over the past few months, I think we can give them another tough match.”
The game will be held at Westleigh Park. Kick-off is at 2pm, tickets cost £8 for adults, £5 for seniors and £3 for children. If you cannot make it to the game, then updates are available on social media @ArgyleWFC.
