Preview | Argyle Women v Portsmouth
Argyle Women host Portsmouth for the second time this season at Manadon Sports Hub as they prepare for the FA Women’s National League Quarter-Final.
The New Year has brought positivity and confidence for Argyle as they have advanced in not only one but two cups since the winter break. A win at Home Park against Cardiff City Ladies and an emphatic victory over Budleigh Salterton has helped to set the pace for Ryan Perks’ side, who are eager to continue their winning ways.
“We’ve had a good start to the New Year,” said Perks. “Our targets were to come back strong and to hit the ground running and the girls have shown dedication to that cause not only in the games we’ve played but in training too. We’ve done well in the cups so far and I’m confident that we can continue that going into this weekend’s game against Pompey.”
This weekend’s fixture marks the second time the Greens have faced Pompey at Manadon Sports Hub, the first of which was a close-fought battle in late October. Argyle took the lead through Lily Greenslade early in the first half, however, goals from Ava Rowbotham and Emma Jones secured the visitors’ comeback, in a game that could have gone either way.
“I couldn’t have asked much more from the girls in the previous game against them,” said Perks. “Both teams battled hard and as we said on the day it could’ve gone either way. We’ve had a chance to build on that result over the last couple of months, and we’ve done our homework as well. We’re going into this one full of confidence the same as last time.”
The game will be held at Manadon Sports & Community Hub, kick-off is at 2.30pm. Tickets cost £5 for adults while under-3s have free entry. If you cannot make it to the game, then updates are available on social @ArgyleWFC.
