Preview | Argyle Women v Portsmouth
Argyle Women continue further into the FA Women’s National League this weekend with another match at Manadon Sports Hub, against Portsmouth Women.
The Pilgrims go into this fixture on the back of a frustrating 1-0 defeat at home to fifth-place Billericay. Manager Ryan Perks had this to say earlier in the week regarding Argyle's previous result in the league.
“Sometimes you get those days in football, it’s frustrating. We dominated the game and created lots of chances. If we took them, we would have won 3-1 or 4-1 on the day, but we didn’t.
“We were really happy with how the girls played and how they stuck to the game plan, but it was just one of those days in football where it didn’t go our way.”
Pompey currently occupy third place in the league and have accumulated 13 points so far this season. Portsmouth started the season with strong form and contested for the top spot in the league, although after recent results they now trail the front runners in Oxford and Watford by five points.
“They’ve had a little bit of a dip in form in the last few weeks.” Perks said when asked about this week’s opposition. “It gives us a bit of optimism going into the game this Sunday on top of the performance we had against Billericay the previous week. They’ve got two strikers who are scoring goals for fun, so we’ve got to be wary of what they possess.
“We know it's going to be a difficult game. We beat them 2-1 at home last year, and they beat us 5-1 away. I think it's going to be a really close game and hopefully we stick to the game plan and come away with the three points.”
The game will be held at the Manadon Sports & Community Hub, kick-off is at 2.30pm. Tickets cost £5 for adults while under-3s have free entry. If you cannot make it to the game, then updates are available on social @ArgyleWFC.
