Preview | Argyle Women v Oxford United

Fixture List

Argyle Women play host to Oxford United this Sunday, 28 January, and will look to continue their winning form.

After a 3-2 away win last weekend against Cheltenham Town, full focus is now on the FAWNL campaign for Ryan Perks’ squad as they enter the final third of the year.

Speaking before the weekend’s action, Perks reflected on his side’s comeback at Kayte Lane last weekend.

“The girls were superb last weekend. The conditions made the first half tough for us but once the wind was in our favour, they worked hard and earned the win. It’s another important three points for us and brings us eight clear of relegation, so we’ve now got to look at making that gap as wide as possible and hopefully we can do that this weekend against Oxford.”

Sunday’s fixture marks the second time that Oxford travel to Coach Road following their Adobe Women’s FA Cup exit in December, which saw the Greens escape from the jaws of defeat twice in 120 minutes of play. U’s captain Leah Burridge missed in the resulting penalty shootout which the Greens capitalised on by netting all five of their own.

“We proved in that game what we’re capable of as a team,” said Perks looking back at his side's last outing against Oxford. “Oxford are a good side and that’s been proven by their recent form but equally they were a good side when we beat them in December. I’ve said many times now that on our day we’re capable of beating anyone in this league and hopefully we can repeat the process this weekend and get another crucial three points.”

Sam Rose’s side currently sit in fifth place on 22 points, despite only playing 11 fixtures so far this season, whilst Ryan Perks’ Argyle sit in ninth on 13 points, following the win against Cheltenham Town last weekend. Oxford are one of the most in-form teams in the league however, with seven consecutive wins.

A win this weekend would not only see Argyle move further clear of the relegation zone, but it would allow the Greens to potentially move into seventh place and on the verge of the top half of the FAWNL.

The game will be held at Coach Road, Newton Abbot. Kick off is at 2pm, with tickets costing £5 for adults, and £3 for concessions while Under-16s gain entry free. If you cannot make it to the game, then updates are available on social media @ArgyleWFC.
