Preview | Argyle Women v Oxford United (A)
This Sunday, Argyle Women return to action away from home against Oxford United Women at the RAW Charging Stadium in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division.
After securing their first win in the league this season, against Cheltenham Town, Argyle will be looking to build positive momentum to continue to take themselves further up the league table.
Last weekend's 3-2 win at Coach Road was decided in the 92nd minute thanks to a penalty from top goalscorer Ellie Sara, who rounded out a hat-trick as the referee blew for full time.
“It was nice to wake up on a Monday morning with three points!” Said manager Ryan Perks. “I was really pleased with the second-half performance from the girls. The application and the desire to win first and second balls went up a notch, and we took care of the ball better.
“I don’t think our tactical changes made too much of an impact on the game compared to the hunger to win the match, so hopefully we can continue to play with that passion whilst we go into a long spell away from home.”
Sunday’s opponents, Oxford, are 7th in the league on four points, at this earlier stage of the campaign. They followed up an away draw at MK Dons, with an emphatic 4-0 win at home to Chatham Town.
Perks reflected on last season's games against Oxford, as well as how he feels the team can do this weekend, following last week’s positive result.
He said: “Last year we played them three times; each time I felt we created chances, and it was a fairly even match. Unfortunately we struggled to turn those chances into goals, whereas Oxford made their chances on each occasion.
“Oxford are a good side and proved that last season with their organisation and how disciplined they were on the pitch, they’ve had a slower start to their season, but we won’t underestimate what they’re capable of.
“Oxford will be well aware of our threats going forward and they’ll know that we can hurt them if they give us the chance to do so. Ellie proved that on Sunday, by putting us into the lead on three occasions, so hopefully we can build on that and continue to take our chances when they come.”
The game will be held at the RAW Charging Stadium, home of Oxford City. Kick-off is at 2pm. Tickets cost £7 for adults, £3.50 for Concessions, £1 for Under 16s and Under 5s go free. If you cannot make it to the game, then updates are available on social media @ArgyleWFC.
