Preview | Argyle Women v London Bees (H)
After a week's break, Argyle Women return to league action this Sunday, against London Bees in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division.
Argyle’s break from action was a perfect opportunity for both the players and staff to reset and recuperate following a long period away from home that saw Ryan Perks’ side take on some of the toughest teams in the league.
Argyle's last two fixtures before the break saw the Greens take on second-placed Portsmouth and top-of-the-table Hashtag United. Although both teams ended in defeat for Perks' side, Argyle pushed their lofty opponents all the way in both games.
Perks took time to reflect on the team's matches before the break, as well as give some insight into what still happens behind closed doors on free match-weeks.
“It’s been good to have a break for not just myself, but I think the whole team really," he said. "Our performances have gradually got better over the last few weeks, and we showed that against two top sides not so long ago.
"Although we didn’t have a game last week, the girls still trained and we as staff still prepared for this weekend’s match. It’s been good to have an extra week to analyse and prepare as well as work on some extra things in training to give ourselves the best possible chance to hit the ground running this weekend against London Bees.”
Argyle kick off their return to league action against London Bees this weekend in what also sees the Pilgrims return to Coach Road after a long period of travelling away. London Bees currently sit bottom of the league table and have struggled to register a win so far this season. Perks sees this as a perfect opportunity to seize more points for the Greens this weekend as well as a chance to build momentum for upcoming fixtures at home, including Sunday, 19 November's game at Home Park against Cardiff City Ladies.
Perks said: “We want three points from the game on Sunday and we’re incredibly confident as coaches in the girls' ability to achieve that. Obviously, you can't underestimate any team in football and although London Bees are going through a tough period, they’ll be keen to secure their first win of the season as well as close the gap from them to us.
"They’ve had close results with the teams in and around the bottom of the table so we still expect a battle, but it’s one we're up for and with us being at home as well, it’ll be even more crucial to have the fans get behind the girls like they have done at Torpoint and against Cheltenham a couple of months ago.”
The game will be held at Coach Road, Newton Abbot. Kick-off is at 2pm, tickets cost £5 for adults, £3 for concessions while Under-16s have free entry. If you cannot make it to the game, then updates are available on social media @ArgyleWFC.
