Preview | Argyle Women v Ipswich Town (A)
This Sunday, Argyle Women travel to The AGL Arena for their return to league action, where they’ll take on Ipswich Town in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division.
Argyle will be eager to continue their goalscoring form this weekend after putting four past Exeter City in the FAWNL League Cup. The Greens booked a place in the next round with a 4-1 win, which delighted manager Ryan Perks.
“Last week was superb from the girls - and it’s exactly what this team is capable of," he said. “The girls followed the game plan from beginning to end, and each player played a crucial part over the course of the match.
"The players were all very eager to bounce back as soon as possible following our opening game of the season against Billericay, and they’ve all shown huge character to see out the match in the manner that we did. This is a great platform for us to build on now and use as momentum for our upcoming league fixtures.”
Next up is a long trip to Ipswich, who claimed a narrow victory against Cardiff City in their first league outing, thanks to defenders Leah Mitchell and Evie Williams. Perks remembers Argyle's last league fixture against Ipswich where the Greens lost 3-0 and shared his thoughts on how he thinks his side will fare this weekend.
He said: “Ipswich are a good side, and last time out we didn’t give a good account of ourselves in the first half. We showed a lot more desire in the second half and even took the game to Ipswich despite going a further goal down but, ultimately, we left ourselves with too much to do with too little time.
"On our day we can beat any team in the league, and the players we’ve signed this season only add to my belief in that statement. It all depends on how we turn up for the game this Sunday. Ipswich’s opening match was very narrow, and they’ll be looking for a much better showing this weekend, but if we play the way we did on Sunday, and have belief in themselves, I think we can cause an upset.”
The game will be held at The AGL Arena, kick-off is at 2pm, tickets cost £6 for adults, £4 for Over-65s and £2 for Under-19s. If you can’t make it to the game, then updates are available on social media @ArgyleWFC.
