Preview | Argyle Women v Cheltenham Town (H)
Argyle Women return to Coach Road this weekend for matchweek three in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division, as they take on Cheltenham Town.
The Greens will be looking to bounce back from their 7-1 defeat away from home to Ipswich Town and secure their first points of the 2023/24 season.
“It was a disappointing result,” said manager Ryan Perks. “I thought in spells we played some decent football going forward. There were just lots of individual errors that Ipswich exploited on the day. We were in a similar position after the Billericay game, and we bounced back the following week against Exeter. We just need to forget the result and bounce back again this weekend.”
Cheltenham are currently seventh in the league after securing a win against London Bees and a draw against Cardiff City in their midweek clash away from home. Argyle's previous encounters with Cheltenham have not been shy of goals; the aggregate score from the last three games would read: Argyle nine, Cheltenham six.
Asked for his thoughts on Cheltenham's development since last season, Perks said: “It’s always a little bit difficult because you don’t know what their recruitment's been like.
“With the new league structure, all the teams in the league get the opportunity to look at each other’s matches and do some analysis. We will sit down, go over that and look for things we can exploit during the game and what their threats are. Last year we achieved this in both our league and FA Cup game against them at home, and I’m confident we can replicate that this time.”
The game will be held at Coach Road, Newton Abbot. Kick-off is at 2pm, tickets cost £5 for adults while Under-3s have free entry. If you cannot make it to the game, then updates are available on social media @ArgyleWFC.
