Preview | Argyle Women v Cardiff City Ladies
Argyle Women return to Manadon Sports Hub this Sunday, 18 December. After a long period away from home, Argyle will be delighted to see the home fans’ friendly faces once more as they take on Cardiff City Ladies in the FA Women’s National League Cup.
Argyle’s positive cup form came to halt last week as promotion hopefuls Oxford United Women knocked Ryan Perks’ side out of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup, wnning 3-0. Chances came for the visiting Greens on multiple occasions but none were able to find the back of the net. “We created nine or 10 really good chances away to Oxford last week,” said Perks. “We just missed that final bit of composure in front of goal. There are still lots of positives to take from the game though and some of the chances we created were of high quality. It’s just a case of turning those chances into goals, and hopefully getting the win.”
After their previous victory over London Seaward in the FAWNL Cup, Argyle now take on another promotion hopeful side Cardiff City Ladies. Cardiff are undefeated in the FAWNL Southern Division South West One, a level below Argyle, scoring 15 goals across their last three games. The Dragons’ previous result in the cup was a 4-3 win over Actonians, and with confidence at an all-time high for the visitors they will be eager to keep their positive form going.
“It’s going to be a difficult game,” said Perks. “They were probably unlucky to go down last season due to the added relegation spots. Despite last week’s result, we’ve won three of our last four games and we want to continue that momentum and what better way to do it than by potentially ending someone else’s?”
This fixture not only marks the final game for the Greens this calendar year but also their return to Manadon Sports Hub after a long period away from home. Manager Perks had this to say on Argyle’s return to base: “We’re incredibly excited to be back home. Our staff and the players are quite used to travelling across the season, but it has been a long period without our home fans. Hopefully, we can bring back some of our positive performances on the road and give the crowd a win this weekend.”
The game will be held at the Manadon Sports & Community Hub, kick-off is at 2pm, tickets cost £5 for adults while under-3s have free entry. If you cannot make it to the game, then updates are available on social media @ArgyleWFC.
