Preview | Argyle Women v Bridgwater United
After a weekend with no action, Argyle Women return to league football for the first of this week’s double header when they play Bridgwater United at the Waterways Stadium, Saltash, this Thursday, 23 February (7.45pm).
Argyle's previous match against Crawley Wasps left a sting in the tale of the Greens’ battle for league safety. After leading the match at the break, goals from Crawley’s Tish Nichols gave the Wasps the lead in the dying moment of the match, leaving Argyle players and staff disappointed and frustrated at full-time.
“In the second half I thought we looked a little bit nervous,” said manager Ryan Perks. “The girls realised that it was an important game for us and there was almost an element of them looking scared to make mistakes. We had chances in the second half, but we’ve just got to be clinical in that final third which hopefully we can do this week.”
Bridgwater currently occupy ninth place in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division and have struggled for form in recent matches, gaining four points from five matches. Argyle’s previous encounter with Bridgwater was a 3-0 loss earlier in the season away from home, a game Perks is keen to improve on.
He said: “Looking back at our last game against Bridgwater I would say that was one of our worst performances over our season. Since then, the team’s changed quite a lot. We’ve brought in some quality players and had some positive results. I’m confident that as long as we play as well as we can for 90 minutes we can come away with three points.”
Tickets cost £5, and Under-3s go free. If you cannot make it to the game, then updates are available on social media @ArgyleWFC.
