Mumba's Derby Preview
Argyle’s record of 15 wins out of 17 home fixtures in Sky Bet League One has pleased everyone in green and white – especially Bali Mumba.
The seemingly perma-happy and enthusiastic wing-back has become a Home Park crowd favourite during his loan spell from Norwich City, and in turn Bali has fallen in love with Argyle, and the Green Army.
Speaking to Argyle TV ahead of this Tuesday night’s game against Derby County, which will be screen live on Sky Sports, Bali was asked about just what makes the Pilgrims so good at home this season.
“We've got the home crowd behind us, pushing us,” he said. “I think that's the main reason. When you've got the noise behind you, the support that we have here, it's that extra boost that you need on the pitch to help you just push that a little bit more.
“This is the first experience I've had where a team at home are so good and really dangerous when they play at home.
“You've always got that confidence when you're at home. You've got that confidence already knowing that this is your home turf. Teams should be coming here and finding this place tough to be able to take all three points from you.
“When a home game's coming up, you're rubbing your hands and looking forward to it and knowing that.
“We know what we are like at home. The pressure's on, but hopefully we don't disappoint and we'll get three points.
“It's the best season in my career. It's definitely one to remember. As you can see, I'm always smiling. Sometimes it's hard to sort of take it in in the moment, because there's so many games happening and you're so focused. Now and then, when you sit back and you realise the work that the boys have put in, the position that we’re in, and I feel so lucky and feel so special.
“Hopefully, fingers crossed, come the end of the season, I'll be able to cherish it and enjoy it more.”
In two previous televised home league fixtures this season, Mumba has popped up with memorable strikes, firing in at the Babcock Devonport End against Ipswich Town and Exeter City, as Argyle went on to win 2-1 and 4-2 respectively.
Does he have another belter up his sleeve for the Sky cameras?
“Fingers crossed! I’m looking forward to it. Hopefully I do get a good chance which falls to me, and I take it,” he said.
