Mumba Returns in Record-Equalling Deal
Bali Mumba has returned to Home Park.
Last season’s Sky Bet League One Young Player of the Season is once again a Pilgrim, having signed a four-year contract to join the Greens on a permanent basis.
He is joining from Norwich City, with Argyle paying a fee for 21-year-old Mumba that equals the club record set on Monday, with the acquisition of Morgan Whittaker.
Wing-back Bali played 47 times during the 2022/23 season, in which Argyle won the League One title with 101 points. He wowed with effervescent performances, playing on either flank, and scored six goals, including memorable strikes against Ipswich Town, home and away, and a thunderbolt live on Sky Sports against Exeter City, as Argyle won the Devon Derby 4-2.
South Shields-born Mumba began his career at Sunderland, playing a handful of games before being snapped up by Norwich. He has represented England up to under-19 level and spent the conclusion of the 2021/22 campaign on loan with Peterborough United before truly finding his home at Home Park last season.
At the end of the season, Bali was named as the Argyle Young Player of the Season and was awarded the Players’ Player of the Season by his peers.
“I am so thrilled to be able to bring Bali back to Argyle,” said Argyle manager Steven Schumacher. “His pace, directness and positivity were huge parts of our success last season, and I know he was someone that the Green Army found tremendously exciting to watch. He gets fans off their seats – and I am sure they will be delighted to get to see him in green once again. I know I am!”
Director of Football Neil Dewsnip said: “Bali contributed so much for us last season, and we have worked very hard to bring him back to the football club.
“Following the signing of Morgan Whittaker earlier this week, the investment into talented, upwardly mobile, young footballing talent continues with Bali coming in.
“We have matched the club-record fee that we paid for Morgan, and I would like to thank Simon Hallett, Andrew Parkinson and the board for backing us, as we ensure that we build a squad fit for the Championship.”
Bali's home shirt will be sponsored by Platinum Car Centre, and his away shirt by Cisco Homes.
The deal is subject to EFL approval.
