Argyle take on Swindon Town on Tuesday evening, in the second of three group stage games in this season's Papa Johns Trophy. The game kicks off at 7pm.

Swindon and Argyle are in Group E, along with Bristol Rovers and Crystal Palace Under-21s. The teams will all play one another, with the top two teams advancing to the next stage.

Teams score three points for winning a game in 90 minutes. If it is a draw, each side will score one point, and a penalty shoot-out will then take place, with the winners scoring an extra point.

In the first round of games, Argyle drew 1-1 with Bristol Rovers, with Ryan Hardie's penalty squaring the game after Ryan Loft had put Rovers in front. The Pilgrims won a penalty shoot-out 4-3 to emerge from the fixture with two points to Rovers' one.

In the other game that night, Swindon lost 2-0 to Crystal Palace Under-21s, so it is the Eagles who top the group on three points.

Argyle and Swindon have met five times in this competition in the last decade, exchanging victories alternately. A 2-1 win for The Robins at The County Ground in 2013 was followed by Argyle winning 3-2 at Home Park the following season.

After a four-year hiatus, the teams met again in 2018, with Swindon winning 3-0 in Plymouth, but Argyle returned the favour a year later, winning by the same scoreline in Swindon.

Most recently, the sides played each other last season, with Swindon winning 3-1.

Swindon are currently 11th in Sky Bet League Two. They have only lost once in the league this season, but have drawn five of their nine games, winning the other three. Those victories include their last two games, winning 3-2 at home to Sutton United last Tuesday, then a 1-0 win at Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

Luke Jephcott is currently on loan at Swindon from Argyle, but will not take part in this game. Former Argyle youth player Oscar Massey is now with The Robins, and appeared as a late substitute in a Carabao Cup match earlier in the season.

Swindon are managed by Scott Lindsay, who served former boss Ben Garner as assistant manager before Garner's departure for Charlton Athletic in the summer.

Hughes Says
“We’ve watched them and they like to keep the ball. They are possession-based; that’s the way Swindon’s DNA is. It won’t be easy; it will be a tough game, but we back any 11 plus the lads who come on to do the club proud, which everyone has been doing."
