Match Preview | Morecambe v Argyle
Former Greens boss Derek Adams will lead out his Morecambe side against Argyle this Good Friday, with the Shrimps looking for points as they battle to avoid relegation.
Morecambe are 22nd in Sky Bet League One, with 34 points from their 40 games. Having struggled through the first part of the season, they had somewhat of a renaissance over Christmas and New Year, beating Accrington Stanley (2-0), Burton Albion (5-0), Cheltenham Town (2-1) and Bristol Rovers (5-1), all at home, with just a defeat at Ipswich in the midst of this resurgence.
However, since the Rovers win on 28 January, Morecambe have won just once from 13 games, which was a home game against Port Vale. In that run of 13 matches, they scored just six goals.
That said, Morecambe’s home record proves they are difficult to beat at the Mazuma Stadium, with just six defeats out of 20 home games. That includes just two home losses in their last 14.
Jensen Weir is Morecambe’s top goalscorer, with nine goals to his name. Cole Stockton, who bagged 26 times last season, has five on his tally this time round, but remains a threat in Morecambe’s front line.
Earlier in the season, Argyle met Morecambe just before Christmas, and won 2-1, with goals from Niall Ennis and Sam Cosgrove putting Argyle in front before former Green Anthony O’Connor, who has since moved on to Harrogate Town, got a consolation.
Schumacher Says
“We expect a tough game from Morecambe. One of our old managers is their manager. We know that Derek’s teams will always be really well organised. They've got a threat when they counter attack and break, and they can score goals from outside the box. we need to make sure that we're prepared for that"
