Lowry looking to continue strong run in Oxford test
Argyle’s Under-18s are looking to continue their unbeaten run of games in the EFL South Youth Alliance League on Saturday, when they welcome Oxford United to Millennium Fields.
An important win over Swindon Town last weekend has moved Jamie Lowry’s side into third in the league table. However, teams around the Greens do have games in hand.
Head Coach Lowry believes his side can continue their good form against a strong Oxford United side but insists the squad must not stray from their principles.
“The boys are in good form at the moment,” Lowry told Argyle TV. “We're looking forward to it; we’re going to go and attack, play on the front foot and hopefully continue our run of good form.
“The lads just need to continue what they've been doing well: being hard to play against, pressing on the front foot, and defending from the front as well. Oxford pass the ball quite nicely in a mid-block so it's hard to break down, but we just need to focus on us and what we've been doing well. If we’re at the levels we set ourselves at the moment, then we'll hopefully have a positive result.
“The boys have spoken about the other teams having games at hand, but we spoke about how the points on the board are really important. Again, all we can focus on is us, keep ticking the games off, perform and get three points. That's all we can do from our side.
“The start of the season was not where I wanted it to be, but we've found our feet now and the boys are in really good form and looking forward to continuing that this weekend.”
Despite having a depleted squad due to injuries, Lowry knows his side can keep performances going and pick up important points in league fixtures.
He said: “Injuries are part of the game and part of football. We are managing the lads, however. We've had a couple of the guys who maybe missed the early part of the week but it's just part of the training, managing their load and making sure there are more recovery days to then kick on again. It's a good vibe, like you'd expect, on the training ground and the boys are looking forward to Saturday's game.”
