Lowe excited by Saltash test
Argyle manager Ryan Lowe is really pleased with how the squad is shaping up ahead of our second pre-season friendly against Saltash United on Wednesday.
The initial plan to play simultaneous matches against Saltash and Tavistock AFC has been changed with the Tavistock match being rearranged for Saturday 24 July.
Wednesday though will be another chance for the players to get some minutes in their legs and get used to playing together.
It’s been over a week since the 5-1 win over Plymouth Parkway, meaning Ryan and his coaching staff have had a long period of time to work with the players.
He said, “We’ve had a week off really as we didn’t play on the weekend so that’s been nice.
“The lads have all fitted in great and are in good shape, the training has been fantastic, its relatively easy to coach I must say, the standard has gone to the next level and that’s a credit to the boys.”
Saltash will prove to be another test for this new look Argyle side, having won promotion to the Western League last season and like the Greens, made a winning start to pre-season with a 4-1 triumph over Brixham AFC.
Ryan said, “It’s all about the minutes, that’s what we want these games for and it will be a good little test for us. We haven’t played them for a couple of years but we’re looking forward to it.
“We’ll have a squad of about 18, 19 that will travel over and everyone will play their part.”
Two members of that squad will be getting their first taste of match action this year with Adam Randall and new signing Macaulay Gillesphey expected to feature.
Ryan said, “Rands and Macaulay will play a little part, they wont play major parts because we have to make sure they’re right.
“I think we’re ahead of schedule, we’ve been in for almost three weeks and other teams have not been anywhere near that so hopefully that can help us strive through towards the start of the season.”
