Loan Watch | Waine off the mark
Ben Waine scored his first Mansfield Town goal during their 2-0 win over Crawley Town on Tuesday night.
The New Zealand international, who joined the Stags on loan during Deadline Day, is yet to start for Nigel Clough’s side but has made a positive impression in five substitute appearances.
After making his debut against Stockport County, Waine has since featured against Cambridge United, Shrewsbury Town and Northampton Town – before playing 45 minutes and scoring against Crawley in midweek.
Mansfield won the latter four of those matches and drew against Stockport. They are third in Sky Bet League One, having only been promoted to the third tier last season.
Young goalkeeper Zak Baker has made three appearances since returning to Tiverton Town on loan.
The 19-year-old started in all three, firstly enjoying a 2-1 league win over Winchester City, where he made a pair of excellent one-on-one stops to help his side to victory.
Zak kept his first clean sheet in a 3-0 triumph over Axminster Town in the Devon St Luke’s Bowl, before a narrow 1-0 defeat to high-flying Gloucester City last time out.
Tiverton are 18th in the Southern League Premier South.
Midfielder Josh Bernard has earned plenty of senior experience already during his time with Tavistock, making several starting and substitute appearances for the Lambs.
Tavistock are 13th in the Southern League Division One South – one step below Baker’s Tiverton – and have enjoyed success in cup competitions.
Back-to-back wins in the FA Cup set up a meeting with Winchester, in which they were beaten 1-0. This Saturday, they play their third and final FA Trophy Qualifying match, against Horndean, after wins against Larkhall Athletic and North Leigh.
Will Jenkins Davies has made one appearance since he recently returned to Torquay United on loan, coming off the bench in a 1-1 draw against St Albans City at Plainmoor.
The Gulls are fifth in the National League South.
