Loan Watch | October 2024
Ben Waine’s Mansfield Town side have continued their fairytale start to the Sky Bet League One season.
The Stags are fourth, with 24 points from their 12 matches, having only won promotion to the third-tier last season.
Waine has played his part in their stunning start, making three league appearances, starting twice and scoring once.
He also played 78 minutes against Newcastle United Under-21s in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, as Mansfield won 3-0.
Waine has continued his goalscoring form on the international stage, finding the net in a 3-0 win over Tahiti in New Zealand’s first 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match.
One place below Mansfield, in 5th, are Lincoln City, where Saxon Earley is on loan.
The defender’s time with the Imps so far has been frustrating. Injuries have kept him out of the squad and he has featured just twice, once this month in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy against Grimsby Town.
Will Jenkins Davies made four Vanarama National League South appearances for Torquay United in October.
The Gulls, whom the young midfielder spent time on loan with last season also, are sixth in the division.
Jack Matthews has enjoyed game time for seventh-tier Taunton Town since joining at the start of the month.
The defender played four times in October, twice in the Southern League Premier Division South, inflicting Basingstoke Town with their first defeat of the league campaign, before a loss to high-flying AFC Totton.
Taunton are 12th in the table, with games in hand on the teams above them.
He also contributed to the Peacocks’ Buildbase FA Trophy campaign, featuring in another win over Basingstoke, before a defeat to Gosport Borough in the first round proper.
Zak Baker has held down the number one spot at Tiverton Town, starting in all four of their league games in October, and their FA Trophy defeat to Dorchester Town.
Joining Baker at Tiverton was Josh Bernard, who has featured as both a starter and substitute.
Tiverton are 18th in the Southern League Premier Division South.
