Leicester City (A) | Schumacher's Preview
Having scored in stoppage time last weekend to beat Stoke City 2-1 at Home Park, Argyle’s next challenge is away to the Sky Bet Championship leaders, Leicester City.
The Foxes, relegated from the Premier League last season, have had a superb start in their attempt to bounce back to the top flight, getting 46 points from their 19 games.
Pilgrims manager Steven Schumacher says that he and his players still plan to head to the King Power to play positively in an attempt to generate at least one point from the game.
“Our message to the players will be the same,” said Schumacher. “We know what their strengths are. We've all spoke about how good their style of play is.
“We know what the individuals all do, but we don't want to go there to sit back and admire them. That doesn't suit us; doesn't suit our philosophy of how we want to go about it. We'll go there, try to be positive, have a go and see where it takes us.
“We know we're up against it, but if you're not brave, if you're not positive, if you don't get on the front foot, then we won't get anything from it, so that'll be our best way and hopefully we can implement that.”
The last-gasp win against Stoke came via an Adam Randell winner. Randell’s goal was his first at Home Park, and came in his 100th game for Argyle. The three points capped off a week which began with a win at home against Sunderland, with a narrow 1-0 defeat at Coventry sandwiched within.
Two wins in three made it a positive week for Schumacher, who left several players out of the squad altogether against Stoke, and having reported a largely fit squad, may have to the same again this time round.
He said: “Everyone came in at the start of the week – Adam still had a big great smile on his face - and the mood is better when you've won on a Saturday, especially when you've got a clear week
“The lads also professional enough that they turn up on Tuesday, are are already talking about the next game, which is Leicester City. The one on Saturday against Stoke has gone, it's time to prepare for this one. It's been good. The lads are in good spirits.
“Everybody, I think, is doing okay. We're playing well. I think the previous week, getting six points from three games was really important. We didn't play great in the Coventry game, but could have got a point. We've got to try to continue that form and that momentum. We’re going up against a huge challenge on Saturday, but we're excited and looking forward to it.
“We left three or four players out of the squad on Saturday completely - really good players as well. When that’s the case, it's encouraging. As the manager, it gives me a headache, but it's part and parcel of it. I'd rather it be like that than us be stretched and be short on numbers. It's good to have everybody back, and hopefully we can keep everybody in as good a form as possible.”
