Latest Project 35 Takeover proves huge success

Argyle Community Trust is delighted to share the huge success of the latest takeover fixture for Project 35, in partnership with Ginsters.

Ahead of welcoming Sunderland to Home Park on Saturday, 14 September, supporters and members of our community were asked to bring items of in-date, non-perishable food to Home Park. Once again, they delivered in record fashion.

1,600 items of food and essentials were donated to the Project 35 gazebo before kick-off, alongside an incredible £1,425.50, collected by the incredible volunteers and through the JustGiving page. These donations will help provide essential support for people facing food insecurity through the Manadon Food Larder.

Recent Project 35 fixtures have been a major success. The first being the Greens’ Sky Bet League One match against Shrewsbury Town back in October 2022. Across all five dedicated fixtures, a staggering 7.6 tonnes of produce and £4,080.50 has been donated to help continue the fight against food poverty in Plymouth, Devon, and Cornwall.

Ginsters Brand Communications Co-ordinator, Debbie Moss, thanked the extensive list of Project 35 volunteers saying: “We continue to be hugely proud of the support within the local community for Project 35 and the takeover fixtures, helping local families in need to access a proper meal is hugely important to us at Ginsters.

“Over the past two years we’ve had the privilege of getting to know the incredible Pledge 35 Volunteers. Their enthusiasm and passion for Project 35 is evident in every action, as they generously dedicate their time to uplifting and supporting their local communities.

“Without this team of selfless individuals, and the support of Argyle and Argyle Community Trust, Project 35 would not be the success it is today.”

Mark Lovell, Argyle Community Trust CEO, added: “We continue to be blown away by the generosity and support shown for Project 35. For local people to show up in such numbers to support those that need it most is a testament to the kindness we see every day from our communities.

“Thanks to this generosity we continue to make a real difference to people's lives in the region.”

The award-winning project has been a huge success since its inception in 2022. As well as food appeals, a range of food poverty initiatives have taken place including:

  • Free meals for children from deprived areas during school holidays
  • Food support for people living in temporary accommodation
  • Argyle experiences for children that wouldn’t usually get the opportunity
  • Targeted food resilience, education, and physical activity sessions and workshops

Through education, awareness and inspiration, the project aims to provide more than short term food relief. Ongoing initiatives provide the tools and education to allow people to come out of food poverty sustainably and creating a legacy for positive long-term change.

The Community Larder runs every week and is currently supporting 80 local people in need with food and supplies provided through our charity network. To find out more, or to sign-up, email  trevor.higgins@pafc.co.uk

The next Project 35 Takeover fixture will be Argyle’s Sky Bet Championship fixture against Swansea City in December.

Thank you once again for your continued support.
