Katie Middleton to be inducted as Forever Green icon
Katie Middleton is to become the latest former player to be inducted in as a Forever Green Icon.
The former Argyle Women’s captain played for the Greens for well over two decades and is by far and away the club’s highest appearance-maker, playing 426 times, scoring 130 goals.
When Katie made her debut, aged 14, it was not even for a club called Plymouth Argyle. The side were known as Saltash Pilgrims, and in 2001 became Plymouth Argyle. Beginning as a forward, and gradually working her way back playing as a central defender, from where she skippered the side for so long, Middleton was a fixture in the team. She even went in goal on occasions where a stand-in was called for.
In 2009, Katie signed to play for Bristol Academy, who are now Bristol City, in the Premier League, as the top flight was then known. Women’s football rules meant Katie was able to hold dual registration, so continued to be associated with Argyle, and then more formally rejoined in 2010.
Katie retired in the summer of 2022, having played alongside some of the current crop of Argyle players, such as Giota Papaioannou and Imy Crawford, who now play in the third tier of English football.
The current side are in action on Wednesday, 9 October, with a game against Exeter City, at Home Park. Katie’s formal induction for Forever Green will take place before that game.
These days, Katie is a regular contributor to Argyle TV, as a pundit and co-commentator, continuing her association with Argyle. Now, with her inclusion as a Forever Green Icon, that legacy is now cemented.
