Julio Pleguezuelo extends Argyle contract
Julio Pleguezuelo has signed a new Argyle contract.
The 28-year-old Spaniard has agreed to a deal which will run until the end of the 2026/27 season.
Known to all as ‘Pleggy’, he has played 53 times for Argyle since arriving in the summer of 2023, including 18 games this season, showing his versatility in various defensive positions and formations. He scored his first goal for the Greens with a late equaliser in the 2-2 draw with Bristol City on New Year’s Day.
A youth player with Barcelona, among other Spanish sides, he joined Arsenal aged 16 and developed with the North London side, having loans out with Mallorca and Gimnastic. In 2019, he signed for FC Twente and spent four years in the Netherlands before returning to England, with Argyle.
“I am absolutely delighted,” Julio told Argyle TV, in an interview coming later this evening. “I can't put into words a lot of the feelings that I have right now. I’m over the moon.
“The last 18, 20 months, I wouldn't change for anything in the world. I’m delighted that I can continue my career here.
“[The Green Army] have been nothing but good to me. Hearing them cheering me on during matches, whether it's at home or away - they have their own chant for me! - I've no words [to express enough] gratitude for them.
“I think the vision of the club is very clear. The project that we're trying to achieve is very contagious. It's something you want to be part of; I'm so happy that the club considers me part of that project.”
Argyle Head Coach Miron Muslic added: “Julio has shown all the attributes I admire during my short time with the club so far.
“He is tenacious, strong in duels and gives his all for the team. Most of all though, he is a good person, and a good professional, who is an important part of our dressing room.
“I am really happy he has agreed this contract extension and look forward to continuing to work with him moving forward.”
