Jamie Lowry Appointed Under-18s Manager

Jamie Lowry is the new permanent lead coach of the Argyle Under-18s team, in a restructuring of Academy coaches following the recent departure of Darren Way.

Jamie, who played 11 times for Argyle from 2012-2013, also played for Chesterfield and Crewe Alexandra during his professional career.

He has worked in the Academy since 2018, and was most recently manager of the Argyle Under-16 squad.

James Bradley, who previously assisted Darren Way and was lead coach with the Under-14s, now steps up to take the same role with the Under-16 team.

They are joined by a new recruit to the Academy coaching ranks: Chris Morris.

Newquay-born Chris had a distinguished playing career from 1982 to 1997. He played for Sheffield Wednesday, Celtic and Middlesbrough, also playing 35 times for Ireland, including in the 1988 European Championships and the 1990 FIFA World Cup.

Post playing career, Morris has worked for the English Football Association in the South West, with a focus on mentoring and developing coaches.

Morris will work on a part-time basis, with a focus on providing experienced support to Jamie and James going forward.

“We are pleased that Jamie and James are taking on new roles at Argyle,” said Neil Dewsnip, Argyle Director of Football. “Between me, Academy Manager Phil Stokes and Kevin Nancekivell, in his role as Head of Player Development, we feel that it is appropriate to give this opportunity to both men.

“Jamie has worked his way through managing the Under-14s and Under-16s, and has assisted with the Under-18s team. He has really good knowledge of the players, of the football club, and can pass on his own experiences as a professional. He also has a strong working relationship with Nance, which will be very helpful.

“James knows the football club so well, having experienced the same stages that our current crop are experiencing, and like Jamie has he progressed through our Academy coaching ranks. He has earned the right to this progression.

“To give them both a better chance of succeeding in their coaching pathway, we’re bringing in Chris to assist them.

“Chris had a stellar playing career, and has worked with the FA with a specialism in the mentoring of coaches. Chris was the coach who passed Jamie on his UEFA B License, and they are from the same hometown, so they have a pre-existing relationship.

“I wish all three men well in their new roles, and have every confidence that they will help the Academy continue to thrive.”
