Issaka and Hatch Star for Wales Under-17s
Joe Hatch and Freddie Issaka both got on the scoresheet for Wales Under-17s in a successful week in Croatia.
With a win and two draws, Wales topped their group and qualified for the elite round of the competition, with the young Argyle dup playing a vital part in the success.
A 2-0 victory against Croatia in the opening fixture was inspired by a Hatch goal which gave Wales an early lead. Issaka came on for the final 25 minutes of the game.
Both lads scored in a remarkable game against Sweden. Wales trailed 2-0 before Joe pulled a goal back before half-time. After Sweden reclaimed a two-goal advantage, it was Freddie’s turn to score, and then a goal nine minutes into injury time gave Wales a point.
In the final game, a 0-0 draw against Albania, Freddie played the full 90 minutes, with Joe coming on with 20 to go, as the boys completed a very successful week of action.
“I am really pleased for Freddie and Joe,” said Argyle Academy Manager Phil Stokes. “For them to help Wales to qualify, stay unbeaten and score three of Wales’ five goals between them is a great achievement.
“Now, they have a big week back with Argyle, preparing for an EFL Youth Alliance Cup match against Portsmouth on Saturday, followed by an FA Youth Cup game against Cheltenham at Home Park next Wednesday.”
