Morgan Whittaker was all about taking the positives in the aftermath of Argyle’s 3-2 defeat at Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Whittaker struck his sixth goal of the season, a stunning effort from outside the area, to put Argyle in front at Portman Road, but after Argyle felt hard done by when a challenge on Mustapha Bundu resulted in nothing being given, and Ipswich equalised shortly afterwards.

The hosts scored twice in a second half in which Argyle threatened regularly, and even down to ten men late in the game, after Bundu went off with the Greens having used all substitution windows, Argyle got one back via Joe Edwards.

It was an afternoon of setbacks, and while obviously disappointed with the final result, Whittaker says there is a defiant spirit inside the dressing room.

“Everyone's really proud of each other,” Morgan said.

“It's just so frustrating, because we're doing all we can and that decision where Moose [Mustapha Bundu] goes through, it changes the game. We could potentially be going in [at half-time] 2-0 up, or 1-0 up, and they have a man sent off, and it changes the whole game.

“On the other side as well, we have chances where we should be scoring in the second half - we've addressed that.

“We were with 10 men for quite a lot of the last bit of the second half. Even with a man less, we were still causing them problems and getting after them. It is very frustrating, but we have to look at the positives as well.

“It gives you confidence and it's also very frustrating at the same time.”

Argyle have had their share this season of games in which performances levels have been high, but results and points accrued has not necessarily tallied.

Whittaker says that the backing of the Green Army, who showed their approval for their side after the game, means a lot to the squad, as they prepare to return to action at Home Park next Saturday against Middlesbrough.

“We're going toe-to-toe with the teams that are the best teams in this league. We've got to take confidence from that.

“The Bristol City game, I think, is the only game where we've been the second best team. Apart from that we've been toe-to-toe with all the teams we've played with. We should be a lot higher with a lot more points than we are.

“[The Green Army] are excited watching us play; we are very frustrated and just asking for patience and for them to keep the belief in us, because we're trying really hard. With their support, it's massive.

“Today, they could have easily been frustrated to come so close again, but they're backing us and it gives us a lot of confidence in the changing room.

“Going into games where there's a big following at home games is massive as well, so a massive thank you to all of them.”
