Ipswich Town (A) | Randell's Preview
Midfielder Adam Randell was part of the Argyle side on both occasions that the Pilgrims met Ipswich Town last season, and as the sides prepare to meet again, Randell says that attaining a result at Portman Road would be a big boost.
Ipswich, who were promoted behind Argyle last term, have started the season superbly, dropping just five points from 12 games, and are in second place behind Leicester at this stage.
Argyle will head to Suffolk having drawn at West Bromwich Albion followed by a 3-0 home win against Sheffield Wednesday in midweek.
Randell says that the Greens were not at their best against the Owls, but can use that victory to aid momentum coming into this weekend’s encounter.
He told Argyle TV: “We didn't play to our best, we don't feel, but we managed to get the result in the end, which is the most important thing.
“We've also been performing better than that throughout the season, so hopefully we can get back up to those levels from Saturday onwards. It's going to be a challenge for us, but we're looking forward to it.
“[Ipswich] have had a lot of good results recently. They've had a brilliant start this season to be fair to them. We're going to do everything we can to upset that.
“Both teams have got new players, so that'll be interesting, to work that out. Last season was a really enjoyable battle between us, and we came out on top, so hopefully it will be the same again.
“Credit to them; they've put the work in and, and have been grinding out results and winning. At the same time, that doesn't mean that we can't go and put on a show and get the result that we want.
“It's a very competitive league. Everyone's quite close together, so if we can pick up multiple results in a row, then it’ll help fire us up. Even one win can shift you up a few places. Hopefully we keep doing that and keep pushing up.”
Randell has started 10 of Argyle’s 13 games in the Sky Bet Championship this season, with a further two substitute appearances, and has scored two goals.
Asked if he feels like a Championship player yet, he self-deprecatingly said: “I'd be lying if I said yes. I think there's still obviously a lot of work for me to do personally.
“I want to become more consistent within my performances. I think that's the main target for me at the moment. I want to be a reliable player who you know is going to play well on the day at this level, and that's going to take some work and it's going to take a bit of time, but I'm working hard to make sure that I can make it a reality.
“Physically it's a lot different. It's a lot tougher; a lot more running and faster running. It takes it out of you definitely but it's enjoyable and I like to put myself up against better players. I want to see what level I can get to and who I can compete against. To be playing at this level at the moment is a really good challenge for me. Hopefully I can keep pushing on.”
