Ipswich Town (H) | Randell's Preview
Adam Randell has played 163 games in his professional career: 118 of those for Argyle.
There is no team he has faced more times than Ipswich Town, playing against them five times in total. It was also the team against whom Randell made his first league start for Argyle, in a 2-1 win at Home Park in October 2021, so there is plenty of significance in the opponents who Argyle face this Saturday at Home Park.
And that goes not just for Randell. Ipswich were the side that ran Argyle oh-so-close last season, as the two sides took Sky Bet League One by storm. The Greens prevailed, winning the league, but Ipswich have carried their form into the Championship season, and sit third, challenging for a second-straight promotion.
They will pose a tough challenge to Argyle, but Randell says he and his team-mates are looking forward to it.
“We've done our research on them,” said Adam. “We'll continue to do more work on what we think they're going to do. Ultimately, as we go into every game, it's about what we do. I think if we perform to our highest levels, then we've got a good chance against anyone.
“Take nothing away from them - they've been really good - but at the same time, they're there for us to beat.
“I received my full debut [against Ipswich] a couple of years ago. That was a positive one. Playing them here last year, and a couple of the way games, they've all been good battles.
“I think we've come out on top on most of the ones I've been involved in; hopefully we can do that again.”
Argyle come into this game having turned in an exceptional performance at Middlesbrough last Saturday, winning 2-0. During the week, with there being a rare midweek without a fixture, Argyle’s players were given time to recharge their batteries, and Randell says it has helped freshen him up ahead of Saturday.
“This week we've had a couple more days off compared to what it has been in recent weeks, which I've enjoyed,” he said. “I've enjoyed the downtime, taking a step back and just properly relaxing and enjoy my time away from football. At the same time, that gives you more hunger to come back into it.
“The longer you stay away, the more you want to come back. I'm ready to get straight back into it, definitely.
“[Middlesbrough] was our first win for a short amount of time. It was something that we desperately wanted as a squad, and we worked really hard to achieve. Hopefully we can build on that.
“We want to make sure that we're winning games at home, with the backing of our fans, absolutely, that's something that we want to achieve. We want to give to them as well as achieve for ourselves.”
