In the dying embers of Argyle’s away game at Hull City, a chance fell to Tigers defender Alfie Jones, which looked likely to decide the game.

As the ball headed goalwards, more than 1,000 members of the Green Army, at the other end of the pitch, probably anticipated late heartbreak, akin to that which they felt Birmingham City and at home to Southampton.

Conor Hazard had other ideas.

The Argyle goalkeeper instinctively thrust his left leg towards the ball, diverting its progress, and maintaining parity in the game.

Hazard made a collection of saves in the game, particularly at the end, with the aforementioned stop the highlight.

“It was good,” Conor said with a smile of contentment, speaking to Argyle TV after the game. “Thankfully, the saves mean something.

“Every goalie is going to say the same when it's that close. It's just trying to get something on it to make it not go in the net and - thank God - I've done that.

“We don't get chances to score goals. It’s always great to make a save in the last couple of minutes and, luckily, I was able to make a few.”

Argyle had taken the lead in the game, in the first half, via Adam Randell, only to see Hull equalise moments before the break, through Regan Slater.

Hazard and his team-mates repelled Hull in the second period, but Argyle had their own chances to win the game, particular when 1-0 up.

In the end, a point was warmly received by the players and by the huge following in the away end. Argyle will face two home games this week, against Millwall and Swansea City, to complete this section of games, before an international window.

“We tried to settle into the game as quickly as possible,” said Conor. “We got the goal early on to keep us settled. I think the people in front of me did a humongous job today. I thought they were excellent all over the park, defensively, from striker back to me. Full credit to them.

“We analysed them before the game and we knew they were in good form. I think a point is a fair result for everyone.

“I think it was good for all the traveling fans to get something from the game. They've travelled a long way, and we're just delighted to be able to give them something to cheer about.

“It's always hard coming away from home. We don't have the home crowd behind us, who basically are the 12th man.

“We’ve got two home games now. We'll hopefully get six points out of the next two results; we'll have to aim high and achieve high, so that's the plan.”
