Jordan Houghton

Houghton Signs New Contract

Jordan Houghton has signed a new two-year deal to remain at Home Park.

The stylish midfielder, 27, is fresh off the back of his third career promotion, having been a key member of the Greens’ squad that clinched the Sky Bet League One title last month, and is now set to play his part as Argyle take on the Championship.

After signing in the summer of 2021, Houghton has played exactly 100 times for Argyle in the last two seasons, adding that century of appearances to 10 he made whilst a loan player at Home Park in 2016.

Houghton served his football education with Chelsea, whom he joined at the age of eight, and ten years later he signed his first professional deal. Whilst with the Blues, Jordan had a loan with Gillingham, the aforementioned spell with Argyle, and then spent two seasons borrowed to Doncaster Rovers, with whom he won promotion from Sky Bet League Two.

Released by Chelsea in 2018, Houghton signed for Milton Keynes Dons, and once again was part of a promotion-winning side. After playing over 100 games for MK over three seasons, he headed back to Home Park, this time permanently.

Argyle manager Steven Schumacher said: “It is great to have Jordan confirmed as part of our squad for next season’s Championship campaign.

“He has been a huge part of our success over the past two seasons. He has a knack of calming us down when we need it, showing maturity and composure to be a real leader for us on the pitch and off it. I am delighted he has agreed to stay.”

Director of Football Neil Dewsnip added: “I’m delighted that Jordan has agreed to sign a deal to stay at the club. He’s an excellent passer of the ball and was a major driving force towards our success last season.

“His experience will be very advantageous as we look to tackle the Championship next season.”
