Galloway looks ahead to QPR away test

Brendan Galloway has good memories of the last time Argyle headed to Queens Park Rangers.

The Greens were on top in the early stages at MATRADE Loftus Road when the sides met in December 2023, only for Dan Scarr to be sent off just before the half-hour mark. From there, Argyle had to defend resolutely, but they did so, and came away with a 0-0 draw.

Galloway, in particular, was excellent on that evening, which showed the team ethic and hard work prevalent throughout the squad.

QPR’s start has been very similar to Argyle’s. They opened with a defeat, at home to West Bromwich Albion, before a 2-2 draw at recently relegated Sheffield United. At Bramall Lane, Rangers were 2-0 down, and had Jack Colback sent off at 2-1, but still found an equaliser through Lyndon Dykes to claim a point.

For the Greens, they are hoping that a win against Cheltenham Town in the Carabao Cup, followed by a draw against Hull City in the league, will have got the opening-day 4-0 loss at Sheffield Wednesday out of their system, as they head to West London on Saturday.

“It should be a good game, an exciting game for us,” said Galloway. “We want to go there, we want to play well, we want to get three points.

“Sheffield Wednesday wasn't a good day for us, but we learned our lessons and we'll continue to learn every day. We had two home games in which I felt that we did really well; [we were] back to our usual self. Now we go away, hopefully looking for three points.”

Galloway has formed a centre-back pairing with Lewis Gibson at times this season, with the two former Everton men linking up in the Argyle backline.

There were times where they played together last term, but usually as part of a back three, or occasionally with Galloway at left-back. Some have noted the unusual nature of seeing two left-footed players playing in central defence together, but Brendan sees no issue. Indeed, he says he very much enjoys playing alongside Gibson.

“I've played with Gibbo, or alongside Gibbo, for a long time,” said Brendan. “I think that we complement each other. We work really well together.

“In general, we have a great partnership. We complement each other, we know each other's strengths, and we always communicate on and off the pitch, we're really close as well.

“We actually played alongside each other for a while at Everton as well, coming up, so I think that it's a good pairing. I really enjoy playing with him.”
