Freddie Issaka Signs First Professional Contract
Freddie Issaka has signed his first professional contract with Argyle.
Attacker Freddie, who turns 17 today, wrote his name into the Argyle record books almost two years ago, when he came on as a substitute at Newport County in the EFL Trophy. At 15 years and 34 days, he became the youngest player ever to represent the Pilgrims in a senior match.
Freddie added to that total with five more appearances in the Trophy last season, as Argyle reached the final. He also made his EFL league bow when coming off the bench in a 1-1 draw at Lincoln City in November 2022.
Truro-born Issaka is a Wales Under-17 international and, alongside fellow Pilgrim Joe Hatch, was part of the squad as the Young Dragons took part in the Under-17 European Championship this summer.
During the current pre-season, Freddie has been prominent, starting many games, and scoring the only goal as the Greens beat Heart of Midlothian in Marbella.
“It is fantastic news that Freddie has signed a pro deal,” said Argyle first-team coach and head of player development Kevin Nancekivell.
“Freddie has done great since he has been here as an under-12. This pre-season he has flourished even more with the first team, and thoroughly deserved his pro contract. He really deserves his contract, and we look forward to working with him for many years to come.
“It’s testament to all the hard work that goes on in the Academy. The Academy coaches work endless hours for not a lot of praise, so credit to them for producing yet another good player that hopefully we can help develop further.”
