Forshaw Positive About Argyle's Competitive Play

Despite losing to West Bromwich Albion, Argyle midfielder Adam Forshaw took solace from how the Pilgrims played in the 1-0 defeat to the league-leading Baggies.

A goal from Josh Maja was the nominal difference in the match, scoring near the hour mark to put the hosts in the lead at a time where Argyle were looking like taking control of the game.

Argyle were brushed aside in the opening game of the season by Sheffield Wednesday, but since then have shown a desire to compete and could arguably have more wins than just one against Sunderland last weekend.

“We don't go back to the first game of the season, but apart from that game, performances on the whole have been really good,” said Forsahw. “I think the fans acknowledged it at the end. We tried to perform for them and just couldn't get a goal.

“We never want to lose games, but we've shown a real bravery. I think we took the ball, we played some really good stuff.

“They've had a couple of chances in the first half, but so did we. We got into really good positions and we’re really disappointed because I think there wasn't much in the game and we could have got something out of it.

“If we play like that, we're going to have a decent season, I'm sure of it.”

Forshaw, restored to the centre of the Pilgrims midfield, was a big part of the concerted effort by Argyle to keep hold of the ball and impose themselves on games.

Following six days without a game, Argyle will soon meet Luton Town, Burnley and Blackburn Rovers in quick succession, and Forshaw is confident Argyle will continue to compete with some of the division’s luminaries.

“I didn't speak to the manager personally, but I think obviously I've got a bit of experience,” Adam said. “They had a three-man midfield, and we did as well. It was a good competition. We competed well and I enjoyed it.

“We're playing at a Premier League stadium and a Premier League club, realistically, so I think the lads are relishing the opportunity. We've beaten Sunderland, who were the league leaders last week, and we’ve taken [new leaders West Brom] to the wire today.

“We're not going to fear anybody. I think we stick to our guns; from Grimmie all the way to the top, we try to pass the ball, and we try to work our way through the pitch. You can see what we're trying to do now.

“The gaffer reiterates all the time that he wants us to be brave. He wants us to take the ball and we did. We had some nice little triangles in there at times. We got the ball wide to our dangerous players and we looked dangerous at times.  There are plenty of positives. We'll be looking to hopefully get some points next week.”
