Forshaw Looks Ahead to Bristol City Challenge
Argyle midfielder Adam Forshaw is keen to ensure that Tuesday’s 6-1 defeat at Norwich City is not forgotten about.
Rather, Forshaw thinks that the squad need to use the experience to learn from, and to inspire them to eliminate some of the issues that are contributing to occasional heavy defeats throughout the season.
Games at Sheffield Wednesday, Cardiff City and Leeds United have all ended in Argyle being beaten handily, and various games in which the Greens have struggled have seen them let in goals in the opening stages of games.
As they ready themselves for a trip to Bristol City this Saturday, Forshaw and his Argyle team-mates are hoping to a change of fortunes, which can only come by learning from Tuesday’s – and previous games’ - mistakes.
“I don't think you want to just park it and pass it by,” said Forshaw, “because unfortunately it has happened a couple of times. It was an early goal again, which is killing us a little bit. We want to eradicate that as quickly as possible.
“Away from home, historically, getting wins has been tough, but definitely staying in games longer, which then builds more belief, is something that we'll want to do quickly, especially going into Saturday because it's another tough away game.
“We do want to move on and put it behind us, but I think we should definitely pick the bones of it and try to look at what we need to do, step-by-step. Starting by not conceding early goals is definitely going to help us.
“I think we capitulate a little bit sometimes when we concede a few goals. Maybe [we need] a bit of knowhow from the team to just say: ‘look, keep the score down’, because goal difference does matter in the league.
“Losing 6-1 is a disgrace, regardless of who you play in your league. I don't think it should be happening. That's on us as players. We shouldn't allow it. Ultimately, we let the fans, the manager and the staff down.
“I think performances, probably in the last few before that game, weren’t tip-top, but we'd won and drew two. We were unbeaten in three going into the game. I think it can quickly get forgotten about.
“We've got a big run of games coming up now. We know that [is the case] pretty much all the way through until March. A week's a long time in football, everyone says that, and a win on Saturday, and although maybe we are a little bit scarred by the result, I think it can be forgotten quite quickly.
“We've just got to dust ourselves down, train well for the next couple of days, and go at it with as much confidence as we can. I think we've got well enough quality within the squad. We've shown that.
“It's tight down the bottom, but par for the course of where we are at the moment. I think we're on similar points to where the lads were before I came this time last season, so that's definitely a positive.
“We know we've got it within ourselves to do even better. I think that is a positive way of looking at it.”
