Finn Azaz Returns on Loan
Finn Azaz has rejoined Argyle.
The creative midfielder, who played a huge part in Argyle’s Sky Bet League One title-winning success last season, is back for another season-long loan at Home Park, from Aston Villa.
Azaz, who turns 23 in September, scored eight goals in 38 appearances in 2022/23, including some of the most significant. He scored the first goal of Argyle’s season, in a 1-0 home win against Barnsley on the opening day of the season, and would later score the final one, at Port Vale, in May, as the Greens won 3-1 to clinch the title.
London-born Finn began his career in the youth system of West Bromwich Albion, and after signing his first professional contract with the Baggies, spent the 2020/21 season on loan to Cheltenham Town, for whom he played 37 times as they were crowned League Two champions.
His permanent allegiance was soon switched to Aston Villa, and he quickly went out on another loan spell, this time to Newport County. He was named in the League Two Team of the Season for 2021/22 and won the divisional Young Player of the Season.
The following season, he headed for Argyle, and very quickly endeared himself to the Green Army, who will no doubt be delighted at the news of his return.
As, indeed, is manager Steven Schumacher. He said: “It is great to have Finn back on board. He was another player who was so influential for us last season and was a huge part of the team that won the league. He scored some big goals and provided some assists at important times last season. His creativity and quick thinking will benefit us greatly in the Championship.
“I believe Finn is another player who is capable of stepping up a division and having an equally big impact on the team. Welcome back!”
Director of Football, Neil Dewsnip said: “It is so good to have another player back at Argyle who performed so well for us last season. It means we add another really talented player to our ranks, and it also says to us that these players believe in what we are trying to achieve.
“They have found an environment they enjoy playing in, and we are very pleased that Finn will be with us for another year.”
Finn's home shirt will be sponsored by Jobel Bathrooms and Kitchens, and his away shirt by Care & Support South West
The deal is subject to EFL approval.
