Finn Azaz Called Up to Ireland Under-21s
Finn Azaz has been called up by the Republic of Ireland Under-21s for the first time.
Ireland are playing in a two-leg play-off against Israel to decide qualification to the 2023 European Under-21 finals. The games are on Friday, 23 and Tuesday, 27 September, meaning Finn will be unavailable for Argyle’s games against Swindon Town, in the Papa Johns Trophy, and Ipswich Town in Sky Bet League One.
Finn is eligible to play for Ireland through his Irish grandparents, and coincidentally would qualify to play for Israel, too.
Azaz recently turned 22, but qualifies for the under-21s as eligibility rules state that you must be 21 or under at the start of the calendar year in which the qualifying process starts.
Former West Bromwich Albion youth player Azaz was picked up by Aston Villa in 2020, and following loans with Cheltenham Town and Newport County, joined Argyle on a season-long loan deal in the summer.
Last season, with Newport, he was named in the League Two Team of the Season, as well as being named Young Player of the Year for the division.
Azaz has already shone in an Argyle jersey, scoring three times in ten appearances so far, and this has obviously caught the eye of those watching from Ireland.
Go well, Finn!
